Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives successfully passed the bipartisan END FENTANYL Act (S. 206), a crucial step in the fight against the fentanyl crisis. Congressman Michael Guest, who authored the bill, expressed his satisfaction with the legislative progress, stating, "It’s time we take a hard stance against the smuggling of this deadly drug." The bill now awaits the President's signature, marking a significant milestone in addressing the impact of fentanyl on American communities.

Senator Rick Scott emphasized the urgency of combating the fentanyl crisis, acknowledging the devastating toll it has taken on individuals and families. He highlighted the importance of supporting law enforcement efforts to prevent the illegal flow of fentanyl into the country, stating, "Passage of the END FENTANYL Act is a big win in our fight against the lethal opioid epidemic."

Reflecting on the impact of fentanyl overdoses, Congressman Michael Guest underscored the necessity of proactive measures to save lives and prevent further devastation. He emphasized the collaborative efforts with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to curb the influx of fentanyl into communities, stating, "This bill is a strong step forward in our mission to save as many lives as possible from this deadly drug."

Congressman David Trone echoed the bipartisan support for the END FENTANYL Act, emphasizing the importance of keeping border inspection practices current to address the evolving challenges posed by fentanyl. He emphasized the significance of the legislation in enhancing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and save lives.

Chairman Green commended Congressman Guest for his leadership in advancing the END FENTANYL Act, noting the critical role of enhanced inspection and interdiction protocols in safeguarding communities from the fentanyl threat. Urging swift action from the President to enact the legislation, Chairman Green highlighted the importance of bolstering homeland security measures.

The END FENTANYL Act, introduced by Congressman Guest and Senator Rick Scott, mandates updates to CBP manuals to enhance efforts to prevent drug and human smuggling through ports of entry. It also requires regular reporting to congressional committees on any changes implemented to strengthen border security measures.

The legislative push against fentanyl smuggling follows powerful testimony from Rebecca Kiessling, a mother who tragically lost her sons to fentanyl-laced drugs. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, has emerged as a leading cause of death among young adults, prompting intensified efforts to combat its illicit distribution and use.

As the fight against the fentanyl crisis continues, lawmakers and law enforcement agencies are determined to address the threat posed by this potent drug. With the passage of the END FENTANYL Act in the House, a concerted effort is underway to strengthen border security measures and protect communities from the devastating consequences of fentanyl abuse.
